Why Club Length Matters

Clubs that are too long cause you to stand too upright, leading to toe strikes and pulled shots. Clubs that are too short make you bend over too much, causing heel strikes and pushes.

A 1-inch difference in club length changes your lie angle by about 2 degrees. That can move your ball 10–15 yards offline at 150 yards.

How to Measure Wrist-to-Floor

Stand straight on a hard floor. Wear flat shoes or go barefoot. Let your arms hang naturally at your sides. Have someone measure from the crease of your wrist (where your hand meets your forearm) straight down to the floor. Measure in inches.

This measurement, combined with your height, determines how long your clubs should be relative to standard.

How to Use This Club Fitting Calculator

  1. Measure your height. Stand without shoes against a wall. Record feet and inches.
  2. Measure wrist-to-floor. Stand straight with arms hanging. Have someone measure from the crease of your wrist to the floor in inches. This is the single most important measurement for club length.
  3. Click "Calculate Lengths." The tool shows recommended lengths for all 14 clubs based on your body proportions.

Taller golfers with long arms may need standard-length clubs despite their height. Shorter golfers with short arms may need standard or longer clubs. The wrist-to-floor measurement accounts for arm length, which is why it matters more than height alone.

Benefits of Properly Fitted Clubs

Better contact. Clubs that are too long cause toe hits. Too short causes heel hits. The right length centers contact, adding 5-15 yards and improving accuracy. See the difference in your club distances.

Correct posture. Properly fitted clubs let you stand in a natural athletic position. Too-long clubs force you upright. Too-short clubs make you hunch. Good posture leads to a better swing.

Consistent ball flight. When lie angle matches your setup (which depends on length), the sole sits flat at impact. A flat sole means the face points where you aim. Learn more about how different club types affect your game.

When to Get Professionally Fitted

This calculator gives a solid starting point based on static measurements. A professional fitting ($50-$200) adds dynamic measurements like lie angle, shaft flex, grip size, and launch data. If you shoot under 100 consistently, a fitting pays for itself in better scores.

Most golf retailers (Golf Galaxy, PGA Tour Superstore, Club Champion) offer basic fittings free with a club purchase. New to the game? Start with our beginner clubs guide first.
